Because our third meeting of STEM Girls would be spent mostly sedentary, I decided that I simply had to make my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. It's a Food Network recipe, but I can't speak more highly of them. They're the perfect balance of sweet and salty, and give a perfectly homey atmosphere to any situation.

Zorya and Brooke explain and demonstrate their play-doh and penny game controller. Alyssa plays the DDR game she worked on with Laila as Natyira waits for her turn. Aydan, Kayanna, and Angeline explain how they use their game controller to play an online game. Ashley and Natyira play the bongos simultaneously on a drawing and
a banana as Ashlee dances along.
The weekend before the second STEM Girls meeting, we received a pasalubong (souvenir) of fresh, South Carolina pecans when a family friend came to visit. They were absolutely delicious, and I knew that I would have to use them in my batch of cookies for the girls. After all, when life gives you pecans... make pecan shortbread.
Pecan Shortbread (2 dozen) - Adapted from the Barefoot Contessa Cookbook Ingredients:
Directions:
Aydan and Angeline look on as Laila plays "Mary Had a Little Lamb" on play-doh! Angeline watches as Aydan plays a pleasant tune with her play-doh piano. Zorya and Brooke listen as Alyssa plays her song, which seems to be
reminiscent of traditional Chinese music. |
